As a visual artist, Jaajr delves into the intricate connections between the self, time, and the continuous change of the universe. Through a practice-based approach that revolves around the exploration of materials and the art of making, she seeks to unravel the mysteries of existence and translate them into works that challenge the boundaries of traditional art forms.

By immersing themselves in the creative process, Jaajr's art seeks to bridge the gap between the tangible and the intangible, inviting viewers to contemplate the interconnectedness of all things and the fluid nature of the universe.

✹ Fam project weekly update
7th December 2020

In this week, I expand the fan design by trying different motifs using the same principle  to create new patterns that give moving reflection.

Circle pattern sample. material used ; mirror paper card.

At first, I came up with a simple shape like a circle and square. From last week, I made a circle pattern using paper, I found it's really confusing when assembled. Circle overlaps disorderedly. So I changed the overlay to a different manner as follow.

Left ; first circle pattern mock up - wrong order on third row, create confusion.
Right ; new pattern.

With this new overlay - it looks neater and when reflecting with the light , this pattern gives the tiny little sparkling motif on the wall. I love this effect so much, later on, I create more pattern hoping it can give different motif when reflecting the light.

Reflection on wall - sparkling pattern move follow the flipping of the fan create ‘Dancing light’

Different colours reflection

With square pattern - it doesn't turn out that well. because the holes are to close to the edge and squares are too small. When assembled together - there is some space in between each bit and that can't be working, It decreases the air circulation ability of the fan.

Unused pattern - the ones with space in between each motif, decreases the air circulation ability of the fan.

I think the square one, even I move the holes inwards yet I feel like there is not many way to creat pattern out of it. However, I use the most simple way to assemble it together and later develop it into another prototypes of fan at the end of this week.

Square motif further developed to stripe fan prototype.

Stripe fan test - fish/snake movement.

Later, I create many other motifs hoping to play with the idea of the reflected light pattern on the wall I found earlier... So far my most favourite motifs are the circle, the heart and the spiky one.

New motif on different colours and materials.

Different motif assembled with the same overlay style.

Overall new patterns.

My favourite motif, heart shape.
